Methodology

How the index is calculated

Nebula blends five signals into one 0–100 score. Unlike price-only gauges, it is weighted toward social intelligence — reading every relevant post with large language models to measure what the market actually feels.

Social sentiment

Nebula reads every relevant crypto post with large language models — not keyword counts — to score how bullish or bearish the conversation is.

Social interest

The volume and velocity of social attention: how much a token or the market is being talked about right now versus its baseline.

Price momentum

Recent price trend and strength, measuring whether the market is advancing or declining.

Volatility

Current volatility relative to recent averages — spikes typically accompany fear.

Emotional intensity

The extremity of emotions across Nebula’s 15-emotion model, capturing euphoria and panic that precede reversals.

The scale

21–40FearCaution dominates the market; sentiment is negative but not capitulating.
41–60NeutralThe market is balanced, with no strong directional emotion.
61–80GreedOptimism is building; buyers are in control and momentum is positive.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the Crypto Fear & Greed Index?

The Crypto Fear & Greed Index is a single 0–100 score that summarizes the overall emotion of the crypto market. A low score means fear (investors are worried and selling), while a high score means greed (investors are optimistic and buying). As of July 14, 2026, Nebula’s index reads 25 — Fear.

How is Nebula’s Fear & Greed Index calculated?

Nebula combines five factors into one score: social sentiment (LLM-scored from every relevant post), social interest (attention volume), price momentum, volatility, and emotional intensity across a 15-emotion model. Social signals are weighted heavily because Nebula is built on social intelligence rather than price alone.

Is high greed bad?

Not inherently, but extremes are contrarian signals. Historically, Extreme Greed (above 80) has often preceded market corrections, while Extreme Fear (below 20) has marked undervaluation and buying opportunities. The index is a sentiment gauge, not financial advice.

How often is the index updated?

Nebula refreshes the Crypto Fear & Greed Index continuously as new social data arrives, and this page updates hourly.

Does Nebula have a Fear & Greed Index for altcoins?

Yes. Unlike indexes that only cover Bitcoin, Nebula computes a per-token Fear & Greed Index across 100,000+ tokens, so you can see sentiment for any specific coin — not just the overall market.
