Chancellor Healey confirms gas standing charges to be axed by end of 2027; Treasury says 60% of households save £45
Chancellor John Healey has confirmed gas standing charges will be abolished by the end of 2027 or "as soon as possible after then", with the Treasury saying 60 per cent of households should save around £45 a year. The government also extended a VAT cut on electricity bills to next July and will pay £100 energy payments to 20 million households in a £2.6bn scheme, while charities warn some could end up paying more.
