ECB plans 2027 digital euro pilot; 2029 issuance depends on EU law

The European Central Bank is preparing its digital euro for 2027, with a 12-month internal pilot testing its infrastructure from the second half of 2027. Issuance in 2029 depends on adoption of the EU's official regulation.
