French deputies adopt 5.5-cent tax on each gigabyte sent to French users

French deputies adopted a socialist amendment at the National Assembly on Friday by 11 votes to 10, imposing a tax of 5.5 cents (€0.055) on each gigabyte sent to French users, despite the government's unfavourable opinion. The measure targets Google, Netflix, YouTube and other content providers and could raise up to €10 billion a year.
