Spain decrees mandatory storage of 12% of olive oil production in first-ever market withdrawal

Spain's government has decreed the mandatory storage of 12% of olive oil production, activating for the first time a market withdrawal to halt the collapse in prices, taking 188,000 tonnes off the market. The measure responds to growers' demands and has drawn opposition from the industry, following publication of the olive oil marketing rule for the 2026/27 campaign.
