Volkswagen recalls 72,668 EVs over battery cell fire risk above 80% charge, NHTSA notice says

Volkswagen is recalling 72,668 EVs worldwide over a supplier battery cell defect carrying a fire risk above 80% charge. The recall covers some ID.3, ID.4, ID.7 and ID. Buzz models built 2022-2025, plus the Cupra Born built 2022-2024; in the US it covers 22,524 ID.4s. Volkswagen will software-limit ID.4 vehicles to 80% charge unless owners opt out by October 21st, and is still determining the root cause and developing a fix.
