Belarus begins releasing 25 prisoners under interim deal with US, which lifts sanctions on two Belarusian companies

Belarus has begun releasing political prisoners following talks between President Alexander Lukashenko and US envoy John Coale, according to human rights group Viasna. Belarusian state news agency BELTA reported on Wednesday that Belarus will release 25 prisoners under an interim agreement with the United States, under which Washington will lift sanctions on two Belarusian companies.
