Bitcoin slips below $83,000 as US bond yields top 5%, traders cut $1.7bn in leverage
Bitcoin fell below $83,000 on September 24, extending a pullback from a rally that had carried it past $87,000 to a new high two days earlier, as US bond yields surged past 5% and traders slashed about $1.7 billion in leveraged positions. Ether also dropped below $2,700. The token is still up more than 40% in the third quarter, after US spot bitcoin ETPs took in about $1 billion net on September 22, the largest single day of 2026.
