BitMEX shuts down trading after 11 years; deposits suspended, withdrawals open

BitMEX, the crypto derivatives exchange co-founded by Arthur Hayes, has ceased all trading operations as of 23 September 2026, as announced on 23 July after a strategic review. Users can still log in and withdraw funds, but deposits are no longer credited and a 1% annualized maintenance fee applies to unwithdrawn balances. It is the fourth major exchange to close this year.
