The Bank of Japan raised its short-term policy rate by 25bp to 1.25%, a 31-year high, in a 7-2 vote, as expected, with the yen sliding past ¥156 per dollar. The BOJ said a change in the level of monetary accommodation was needed to secure its price-stability objective, warning inflation pressures are building through wages, energy costs and a weaker yen.
