CBO: Iran war cost $38 billion in first five months, raises Q1 2027 PCE inflation projection by 0.5 point

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the Iran war cost the U.S. $38 billion in its first five months, averaging about $246 million per day and forecast to rise $3 billion a month. CBO also said the war's energy price effects added 2.3 percentage points to annualized PCE inflation in Q2 2026 and raised its annual PCE inflation projection by 0.5 percentage point for Q1 2027.
