China reportedly opens first foreign airbase in Laos as it encircles Vietnam

China has reportedly opened its first foreign airbase in Laos as part of an effort to encircle Vietnam. Satellite images show Hongdu JL-8 military aircraft and more than 20 support vehicles on the runway, where expansion work is underway. The runway was previously a CIA secret strip during the Vietnam War. The claim follows earlier reports and denials about Chinese military construction in the region.
