Fiji has declared a national HIV emergency after diagnoses jumped 27% in a year, with a record 2,016 cases in 2025 and sexual transmission and illicit drug use driving the spread, now infecting an estimated one in 60 adults, BBC and the Inquirer report. UNAIDS estimates 9,100 people in Fiji are living with HIV, but only 39% know their status.
