Hurricane Isaias strengthens to Category 1, forecast to reach Category 2, prompting Florida evacuations

Hurricane Isaias has intensified into a Category 1 hurricane in the Gulf with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 km/h), the National Hurricane Center said. Forecast to reach Category 2, it is expected to make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday, threatening Mississippi, Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle, and has prompted mandatory evacuations and school closures in parts of Florida.
