Indian police tear gas protesters as demolition of 600-year-old Ujjain mosque begins

Indian police used tear gas and batons on demonstrators as hundreds gathered for a second day to protest the demolition of a mosque in Ujjain they say is more than 600 years old. Several people were arrested and work began to knock down part of the building; the BJP-led state government says the demolition is needed to widen roads ahead of the 2028 Hindu pilgrimage.
