Merz refuses to resign, calls CDU's state election results a "disaster" as Die Linke wins Berlin and AfD surges

Chancellor Merz has refused to resign after his CDU's results in the Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state elections, which he called a "disaster", saying he takes responsibility and will stay on as CDU chairman and chancellor. Exit polls show Die Linke first in Berlin at ~25% with a 13-point surge, the CDU at 20% there and 5.5% in MV — its worst ever state result — while the AfD more than doubled to 37% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
