NHTSA opens defect petition into ~1,000 Tesla robotaxi vehicles over alleged school-zone speeding

NHTSA has opened a defect petition into an estimated 1,000 Tesla robotaxi vehicles over allegations of exceeding posted speed limits in active school zones. The petition was received Sept. 23 and NHTSA opened an evaluation Oct. 9; the petitioner provided three video links as evidence of alleged speeding by 2026 Model Y and Cybercab vehicles.
