Former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu was detained by police and anti-organised-crime prosecutors on suspicion of fraud and forming a criminal group. Prosecutors say he and associates convinced a businessman to hand over €1.1 million as a guarantee for millions in foreign financing that never arrived; searches found €4,000, documents and electronics.
