Turkey's BDDK lets listed banks buy back own shares, with buybacks exempt from core capital until year-end

Turkey's banking regulator BDDK, reviewing a 17 September 2026 letter, decided that publicly listed banks trading on Borsa Istanbul may repurchase their own shares from the market after 16 September 2026, and allowed them not to deduct those buybacks from core capital until the end of the year. Turkish bank shares rallied to their ceiling limits after the decision.
