U.S. officials held a previously undisclosed meeting with an Ansarallah (Houthi) delegation at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, Oman, over the weekend, according to Reuters, days after the group seized effective control of Yemen's Red Sea coastline and Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb. During the meeting, the U.S. promised not to provide air support to Saudi-backed forces or strike targets in Houthi-held territories, in exchange for the Houthis keeping the Bab el-Mandeb strait safe. The Houthis said they had no intention of attacking American vessels and were committed to the 2025 ceasefire with the United States, and ruled out attacks on Israeli and commercial shipping, saying only Saudi vessels would be targeted. Sanctioned Houthi official Mohammad Abdulsalam and Abdelmalik al-Ajri attended the meeting.
