U.S. officials met Houthi representatives in Oman after group seized stretch of Yemen's Red Sea coast; U.S. promised no air support to Saudi-backed forces or strikes in Houthi-held areas in exchange for keeping Bab el-Mandeb safe, Reuters reports

U.S. officials met an Ansarallah (Houthi) delegation in Oman over the weekend, according to Reuters, after the group seized a strategic stretch of Yemen's Red Sea coast. During the meeting, the U.S. promised not to provide air support to Saudi-backed forces or strike targets in Houthi-held territories, in exchange for the Houthis keeping the Bab el-Mandeb strait safe. The Houthis said they had no intention of attacking American vessels and were committed to the 2025 ceasefire with the United States, and ruled out attacks on Israeli and commercial shipping, saying only Saudi vessels would be targeted. Sanctioned Houthi official Mohammad Abdulsalam and Abdelmalik al-Ajri attended the meeting.
