UK retail sales rise 0.5% in August, beating forecasts for a 0.2% fall

UK retail sales including auto fuel rose 0.5% month on month in August, against expectations of a 0.2% decline, with the year-on-year rate at 2.4% versus 1.9% expected. Excluding auto fuel, sales rose 0.6% m/m and 2.7% y/y, both above forecasts.
