US 30-year mortgage rate hits 7.24%, a 19-month high

The average 30-year US mortgage rate rose to 7.24%, a 19-month high, up from multi-year lows in February as rising energy costs drive wider inflation fears. A $500,000 mortgage now costs over $3,400 a month, versus $2,995 seven months ago.
