US charges five over alleged Russian intelligence plots to kill dissident in DC, recruit assassins

US prosecutors have charged five alleged members of a Russian intelligence-linked network with conspiracy to finance terrorism and commit murder for hire, according to an unsealed Justice Department indictment. Prosecutors say the network recruited people in the US, including a US-based Venezuelan, to conduct surveillance and assassinations, and the FBI says the plot targeted a prominent dissident in Washington, DC.
