US charges Maduro and wife anew with torture conspiracy; wife denied bail

The US has charged former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores with conspiracy to commit torture over the alleged mistreatment of Americans and political opponents held in Venezuelan custody, in a new indictment unsealed Thursday in New York. A Manhattan federal judge denied Flores bail. The charges add to drug trafficking counts already pending against Maduro.
